Messaging & Online Consultation I have launched two new services: Secure Messaging and Online Consultation. 1) SECURE MESSAGING: WHY: Regular e-mail is not secure enough for medical purposes. Confidentiality is critical. With regular e-mail, your friends, relatives, coworkers, or employer could come across your communication to me. Secure Messaging is encrypted to reduce these possibilities. WHAT: Security and confidentiality are the important considerations. WHO: Patients who are established in my practice. HOW: See section on my website below entitled COMMUNICATING WITH THE OFFICE. COST: None. 2) ONLINE CONSULTATION: WHY: We have all had the experience of making an appointment to receive advice from a physician, lawyer, accountant, or other professional when the time involved actually meeting with our advisor was a fraction of the total time spent accomplishing the visit. First there is the phone call and discussion with the scheduling staff. Next, taking time off from work or scheduling between other duties can be tricky. Driving to the office is time consuming as we include extra time to allow for traffic delays and parking and registration in order to get to the office on time. WHAT: Time! Time is a valuable resource. I now have available the technology to save you an actual trip to the office in favor of a "virtual office visit". While MOST APPOINTMENTS REQUIRE YOU AND I TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM, there are a few instances when I can provide you with as much individualized information without a face-to-face meeting. Some specific examples include advice on management of medication side effects and adjusting dosages between appointments; discussing school, work or insurance forms; or sorting out fact from fiction about things heard on the news about psychiatric treatments. Online Consultation is NOT A SUBSTITUTE for your regularly scheduled visits and should not be used in lieu of missed appointmeats (and remember, the hardest thing for me to do is change appointments). WHO: Patients who are established in my practice. COST: The cost is $25 per visit. Online Consultation is NOT a covered benefit on any insurance program. This service is for those patients for whom the time saving convenience is a higher priority.
